Memento Mori for the Christian Business Leader

Sitting down with Joe Coleman made one thing clear: being a Christian business leader brings moral responsibility.

Founder of Saint Kolbe Studios and Quill & Wave, Joe has worked in broadcast radio, marketing, and sales, but he determined that some people are wired to work for themselves. With a mix of faith, confidence, and maybe just a little hubris, he founded Saint Kolbe Studios to let faith-driven business owners increase their reach using their own voice.

And making a place for dignified work in the economy comes with responsibility.

Or as Joe says, “Be better.”

The Road to Hell is Paved with the Skulls of Business Leaders

Christian business leaders realize that their choices matter, but Joe is willing to speak clearly about what that really means: the things you do can send you to Hell.

Perhaps you're considering starting a new business, launching a new product, or hiring a new position. We have to avoid the fear that may arise as well as grey moral areas. Joe admitted that without morals, it would likely be a lot easier to make a lot of money. Put the shareholders (and yourself) first, maximize profit, and minimize concern for consequences.

Better for bank accounts, but not for your soul.

Measure Choices Against Eternal Judgment

But sometimes, the choices are less obvious.

“You can get into this consequentialist mindframe that allows you to exist in this greyer area than you should probably be in.”

Joe admits that the hard thing often isn't avoiding evil, but giving up a good to do something right. But we earn far more eternal rewards when we use what we've been given for good. When we use our talents poorly, there are consequences, even if we don't do anything obviously wrong.

Primary Goal is Dignified Work

This is the mindset that motivates Joe in his podcasting work.

The ultimate goal for all of us is the spreading of the Gospel and attaining Heaven.

But the primary good for business is its role in dignified work. He offers his clients an opportunity to speak to their audience and do more work. Work itself is a tangible good for humanity.

So what's good for work is good for Joe.

Make Your Voice Heard

Be sure to listen to our full conversation on YouTube to learn more about Joe's journey and advice to other Christian business leaders. As he sums up: you're never more tolerant to risk than you are earlier in your journey. Prudence doesn't mean letting fear decide for you.

And if you've had an itch to start a podcast? Be sure to contact Joe Coleman or visit Saint Kolbe Studios. He's an absolute pro to work with.
